Peut-on prévenir le risque langagier dans la communication écrite en entreprise ?

Anne Condamines

Abstract

Written communication may entail comprehension difficulties that may have serious consequences, specifically in a working environment. The paper presents two kinds of linguistic studies focused on documents in the workplace: the first one adopts a sociolinguistic approach, the second one a Natural Language Processing (NLP) one. The description of the main characteristics of these two approaches shows that there is little interaction between them. The paper examines the possibility of using termino-ontological resources (built from texts with NLP methods) in order to overcome risks linked to language use; but it also shows the limits of such terminological norms, often too rigid when compared with the dynamic functioning of discourse. The author suggests that taking sociolinguistic propositions into account allows the introduction of variation in these terminological resources. Four ways of taking such variation into account are presented: textual genre, writers' points of view, evolution over time, and the nature of the application.
