The collective volume concerns urban and regional spatial scales of borders and identities. It took shape in discussions held by the members of the Thematic Work Group 5 of the CLIOHRES research Network of Excellence, and further discussions at one of the main sessions of the international conference of the European Association for Urban History at Stockholm at the end of August 2006.
