Les seniors dans le cyberespace : entre appropriation et rejet

Abstract : The digital practices of the seniors have strongly increased this last decade. The elderly, often called "silver surfers" have gained their place within social networks and learning communities and thus contribute to the emergence of new contents targeting their specific needs. However, the ever growing number of online seniors should not hide the existence of a digital gap and numerous elderly people still re-main e-excluded. 1 Professeur en Sciences de l'éducation - Université de Toulouse II - UMR " Education, Formation, Travail et Savoirs " - Toulouse. 2 Master Recherche Sciences de l'Education, Université de Toulouse II Recherches & Educations 2 This paper sets out to present a research that we completed in 2009- 2010 in the French Midi-Pyrénées region. The study aimed to identify what were the virtual practices among the senior population. We then tried to better understand what were the reasons for the use, or on the contrary disaffection towards the new communication technologies. Vir-tual practices by the elderly are the sign of the existence of a practical sense where the logics for the use of the virtual space this part of the population too be seen as the emergence of new forms of virtual life among them
