PALEOPYR : un système d’information pour les données paléoenvironnementales nord-pyrénéennes

Abstract : This paper reviews the data on Holocene paleoenvironmental sequences collected on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees, attempts to store them in the PALEOenvironmental information system for PYRenees data (PALEOPYR) and outlines a possible use for synthesis on spatio-temporal dynamics of the vegetation. Studies on paleoenvironmental stratigraphies over the last thirty years have yielded a very large amount of data (including pollen, non-pollen palynomorphs, charcoal, diatoms...). This paper aims at describing the major methodological steps of designing the database and provides recommendations for optimizing the PostgreSQL/PostGIS server. Data from 90 sequences and their relative metadata are stored in the database in relational tables. This database will allow a broad range of queries to be addressed in order to visualize and explore the data with both graphical user and web mapping interfaces. PALEOPYR will help the scientific community to study past landscape dynamics at the Pyrenean scale.
