LES INDUSTRIES LITHIQUES DE LA FIN DU NÉOLITHIQUE DANS QUELQUES GROTTES SÉPULCRALES DES GARRIGUES ET DES PIEDMONTS CÉVENOLS DU GARD

À la fi n du Néolithique et au Chalcolithique dans les groupes de Ferrières et de Fontbouïsse, entre 3200 et 2400 av. J.-C., le traitement des défunts qui nous est perceptible se manifeste sous de multiples formes. Dans ces contextes sépulcraux diversifi és, le mobilier funéraire ne semble pas normalisé, il peut être absent ou pléthorique, représenté par un assemblage regroupant des éléments de parures, de l'industrie osseuse, des céra-miques, de l'industrie lithique, des pièces métalliques, ou par une seule de ces catégories. L'étude du mobilier lithique de trois grottes sépulcrales gardoises des garrigues languedo-ciennes, confrontée au matériel découvert dans des contextes d'habitat et dans d'autres ensembles sépulcraux plus ou moins contemporains, permet de faire ressortir plusieurs constantes. Au sein des assemblages en contexte sépulcral, l'industrie lithique se décline selon les multiples formes présentes dans les habitats et ce ne sont pas, ou rarement, des objets neufs. Toutefois ces pièces qui sont issues de la sphère domestique plaident pour une sélection qui a prévalu dans leur choix comme bien d'accompagnement du ou des défunts. En eff et, une surreprésentation de certains éléments par rapport aux séries lithiques contemporaines des habitats est perceptible. Elle concerne les types de support, l'origine géographique des matières premières, le choix de certains objets particuliers ou encore le mode de transformation de certaines pièces. L'industrie lithique dans le mobi-lier funéraire de la fi n du Néolithique nous off re ainsi un refl et des structures sociales et économiques, au travers d'objets du quotidien, dans une mise en scène qui sélectionne certains d'entre eux, hors normes, peut-être comme des marqueurs identitaires. Title: Th e lithic industries in the funeral off erings of the sepulchral caves of the end of the Neolithic in Cevennes. Abstract: At the end of the Neolithic and during the Chalcolithic, in the groups of Ferrières and Fontbouïsse, between 3200 and 2400 BC, the treatment of the deaths shows itself under multiple forms. In these sepulchral contexts, the off ering doesn't seem normalised, it can be absent or plethoric, represented by an assemblage of ornaments, bone industry, ceramics, lithic industry, metal pieces, or by only one of these categories. Th e lithic study of the grave goods of three sepulchral caves of the garrigues of the Langue-doc, confronted with the material discovered in dwelling site context, makes it possible to emphasize several constants. Within the assemblage in sepulchral context, the lithic industry declines itself according to the multiple forms present in the dwelling site and they aren't, or seldom, new objects. However these objects from the domestic sphere plead for a selection in sepulchral context. Indeed, an over-representation of certain elements compared to the contemporary lithic series of the dwelling site is perceptible. It relates to the forms of supports, the geographic origin of the raw materials, the choice of certain particular objects or the mode of transformation of certain pieces. Th is lithic industry in the funerary goods of the end of the Neolithic off ers us a refl ection of the social and economic structures, through objects of the everyday life, in a production which selects some of them, no standards, perhaps like identity markers.
