Some linguistic lines of thinking on Trifles by Susan Glaspell (the play and its film adaptation)

Daniel Huber

Résumé

The paper presents some linguistic aspects of the play "Trifles" by Susan Glaspell, in its play text version and its film adaptation by Hitchcock. Especially, archaic and dialectal features of verb complementation and subordination in "as", "if", "that"-clauses are analyzed. At a pragmatic level, the structures used in the construction of persuasion are investigated, especially as they are different in the text version and in Hitchcock's film adaptation.
