Le vote des banlieues. Réflexions sur soixante ans de recherche

Abstract : The issue of electoral behaviour in the suburbs has long been of interest to French social science researchers, and more particularly to political science researchers. The aim of this paper is to examine how survey’s approaches, questions and methodologies dealing with voting among suburban residents have evolved since the 1960s. The article distinguishes between different stages, from initial studies on the foothold of left-wing political parties, to the study of abstention or voting for the far right, to more recent research on immigrant populations or new voters in the residential suburbs.
