Un établissement rural à vocation agricole et métallurgique de la fin du premier âge du Fer à Carcassonne (Aude) : le site de Christol

Abstract : Christol site is located in the north-east of Carcassonne, on the right bank of Aude river that flows 1 km away on the east, close to the former wet ground area called la Madeleine. The moving of Carcassonne’s hospital to Montredon gave the opportunity to carry out an excavation in 2008. It led to the drawing of a settlement plan, composed of an apsidal building flanked by a room on its north side, with external and internal spaces developed all around it. The homogeneous finds indicate an occupation dating to the end of the early Iron Age. There are signs of farming and craft activities, in particular production of voluminous iron artefacts by some specialized workshop.
