Les Langues du Saint-Esprit. Glossolalie et discernement

Abstract : This essay establishes a historical account of the phenomena of "speaking in tongues" and prophecy in Christian context in modern times, since the seventeenth century (little prophets of the Cévennes) to evangelical Churches of the Revival in the early twentieth century, in the United States, that have create the theological and experiencial model of contemporary Pentecostal and Charismatic Churches. We insist that these phenomena raise the problem of the discernment of spirits. On another level, we insist on the social and political dimension of the emergence of these practices in terms of gender, subordinate class and communities subject to strong discrimination.
