De la phonologie de corpus à la sociolinguistique. Enjeux de définition de la communauté linguistique australienne.

Abstract : This document entitled From Corpus Phonology to Sociolinguistics. Issues in the Definition of the Australian Linguistic Community / De la phonologie de corpus à la sociolinguistique. Enjeux de définition de la communauté linguistique australienne presents the reader with a descriptive and epistemological approach in phonology, based on contemporary Australian English. AusE is viewed as the expression of both a specific historical dialect formation and the sociolinguistic and cultural development of its contemporary community. Relying on the paradigm of empirical phonology, we show (i) how corpus phonology represents a scientific requirement for contemporary phonology, (ii) what an interdisciplinary and comparative perspective between corpus phonology and other fields of the humanities and social sciences may bring to phonology as a discipline, and (iii) in which ways sociolinguistics can contribute to sociophonological enquiry. Volume I gives a synthesis of our scientific background, stand and future research prospects. Volume II is a collection of published articles and book chapters. Volume III is composed of the manuscript entitled La Langue des Australiens. Genèse et description de l’anglais australien contemporain.
